How to measure for a perfect fit

Measuring for a perfect fit is critical to the way the designs and pieces rest upon the body.  Just a fraction of an inch can cause major issues in the way a piece appears.  Below you will find important measuring information to help you determine the measurements to submit with your order to ensure the perfectly tailored, just-for-you fit for any part of the body.  All measurements should be made with a tailor's tape measure. If that is not available, a piece of string may be substituted and then measured against a standard measuring tape.

The Head:  Begin with the forehead. Place the tape measure around the forehead in the exact place you would like for the piece to rest. This is usually half way between the eyebrows and the hair line. Wrap the tape measure around the head snuggly.  If the piece is to sit upon an up-do or styled hair, please measure when the hair is as you will be styling it.

Once the forehead measurement is complete, you may or may not need to measure the distance from the crown of the head to the band depending upon the style of the headpiece. Some are a simple headband style, others cover the whole head. You should be able to tell by the photo of the piece you are ordering if you will need to have this measurement as well. If so, place the beginning end of the tape measure at the crown of the head and measure down to where the band will rest. This should be where you measured around the head. Depending upon the style of headpiece, you may need to measure 4, 6 or 8 lengths. Again, you will be able to tell by the photo how many different lengths you will need to measure.

Some head pieces are made to hang down the back of the head. Please provide the measurement of the length you prefer. Start at the place on the back of the head where the band will rest and measure down to the lowest point.

The Neck:  Depending upon the style of collar, necklace or choker you desire the measurements may be as few as one or they may be more.

The basic measurements for the neck include the top of the piece and the bottom of the piece, taking into account the width of the design. By natural design, the upper part of the neck is a bit smaller than the lower portion down by the collar bone. Considering the width of the design, if the measurement at top and bottom are the same, as in a simple choker or collar, then just send the one measurement.

The Arm/Wrist:  Several measurements are required on this appendage, depending upon the piece you are ordering.

The upper arm, around the bicep area is needed for armbands. Please include the width of the piece.

Mid-forearm is necessary for some lower resting armbands.

For cuffs, measure around the wrist and the forearm where you desire the piece to be. Example, if you are ordering a 4" cuff, measure the wrist and 4 inches up the forearm where the end of the piece will be.

If you are ordering body chains that will connect all the pieces together, please include a measurement from connecting point to connecting point. Example, measure from where the chain will connect on the collar to the armband, etc.

The wrist measurement is important for bracelets, cuffs and slave chains. Simply measure around the wrist.

The Hand:  Once you have the wrist measurement, you will need to measure down from the wrist along the back of the hand to the finger that you will want to wear the ring of the slave chain around. You will also need to measure across the back of the hand as well.

The finger(s) that you want the slave chain to ring is very important. Please measure the base of the finger(s) to ensure that the ring will fit properly.

The Breasts:  This measurement is needed for the nipple chains.  Simply measure from nipple to nipple, allowing for the amount of slack you desire in the piece.

Please note, if the nipple chain is to be connected to the collar as in the case of the body chains, please measure down from the connection point on the collar to the nipple chain.

The Waist:  The waist is found a few inches above the top of the hips. To make it simple, it is usually where the waist line of your pants is found. It is the narrowest part of the torso.

The Thigh:  Measuring the thigh is much like measuring the upper arm. Select the place where you will want the piece to rest taking into consideration the width of the piece. Measure top and bottom.  If the thigh band is to connect to another piece, measure the distance allowing for any slack you may desire.

The Ankle:  Like the wrist, the ankle measurement is necessary for anklets and barefoot sandals. Keeping in mind the width of the piece, measure around the ankle. Include the distance up the leg if the piece you are ordering is an ankle cuff.

The Foot:  As with the hand, the length of the foot to the toe and the width of the foot are necessary. The base of the toe that the piece will connect to is also needed.
